3 Ways To Treat Your Washing Machine Right

Posted on

If you want to avoid having to deal with a malfunctioning washing machine, you need to make sure that you treat your washing machine right on a daily basis. There are multiple things you can do to treat your washing machine with care and love.

#1 Watch the Size of Your Loads

First off, watch how much laundry you put into your machine at one time. You shouldn't put so much laundry into your machine that you have to shove and push it down in order to even close the door to your washing machine.

There should be space and air around your clothes, and you should be able to easily close your washing machine drawer. Overloading your washing machine can stress out your machine, and result in clothing that is not properly washed. Remember, it is okay to do smaller loads.

#2 Use the Right Soap

If you have a newer washing machine, get out your owner's manual and look at what type of soap you are supposed to use in your machine. In many modern machines, you are supposed to use soaps that produces a low amount of suds. Low suds soap is marked as "HE" soap, so look for that designation the next time you are purchasing new soap in the laundry aisle.

Make sure that you use the right amount of detergent as well. Detergent has become more efficient, and you don't need to use as much as you did in the past. Pay attention to the measuring cup that comes with your detergent, and only put in the amount of soap necessary for the size of load you are running.

Don't overdo it on the soap; using too much soap will cause soap suds to build up in your clothing and clog up your washing machine.

#3 Clean Your Washing Machine

Your washing machine needs to be cleaned every once in a while too. About once a month, run a load of hot water with white vinegar in it. The white vinegar will help deodorize your washing machine and remove built-up soap scum as well.

After you run the white vinegar through the washing machine, take a cloth and wipe down around the gasket on the door of your washing machine. Clean the door and the gasket of your machine as well.

If your washing machine ever starts to act up, get your washing machine inspected by a professional washer repair service person right away.
